[1 to 12] FINALE: The Life Of A Showgirl (featuring Sabrina Carpenter) + pre-ranking The Life Of A Showgirl based on titles alone

[note: this is simply a prediction post, and does NOT contain any leaked content]

So this is it. We've officially reached the two-hour countdown to the highly anticipated The Life Of A Showgirl. It feels like just yesterday I was staring at my phone as the time ticked down, anxiously awaiting the album announcement at 12:12 AM on August 12th. (In fact, honestly it feels like just yesterday I was counting the days until The Tortured Poets Department, before I was even a true Swiftie.) And now we're at the end of the 12 to 12 series with the final song prediction discussion, which is, in the wise words of Taylor Swift and the Kelce brothers... can I get a drumroll?

The title track, The Life Of A Showgirl, featuring... Sabrina Carpenter. (SABRINA CARPENTER!!!!!!)

Yeah, I understand Travis & Jason's excitement 100%. Considering how good they sounded on the Eras Tour stage performing Espresso and Please Please Please together as surprise songs, this is gonna make for a really good collab. Taylor and Sabrina are both very well-known performers and this song will probably tie together the main themes of this album - all the highs and lows and everything that goes on behind the curtain before and after the showgirls put on their shows. In my parallel songs post, I used one of my three Taylor Swift parallel songs to draw a connection to Long Live, a song about the joys of putting on a show for a cheering crowd of loyal Swifties and hoping to be remembered forever. However I have reconsidered that since then. This is The Life Of A Showgirl which implies it will be more about the "normal" things, along with the performance aspect of it. (I imagine "and baby, that's show business for you" being one of the lyrics in this song.)

Musically, I predict this will sound like one of my favorite songs at the moment that also happens to be a closing track - Sabrina Carpenter's Goodbye, combining country influence with a more ABBA-like 70s-y synth pop sound. The closest parallel I can think of in Taylor's discography would be the song Red. It's a lot less likely, but it would also be really cool if this had a more dramatic, theatrical, orchestral, almost jazzy production to it like a Broadway show tune. I think it will probably be very dramatically joyful and a lot of fun. And that's about all I have to say for this one, I'm just really excited to see how this album turns out! I'll be staying up til midnight tonight to listen!

Okay, and now for my final conceptual songwriting, and my last time saying it. At this point everybody can just say it with me...

No leaks or AI assistance were used!

"Take a look behind the curtain
The life of a showgirl is life too
It's gorgeous to look at
But living inside it makes us confused
Anything we do
Could be cold, could be cool, could be hot
It's a frightening feeling
It's a rapturous thought
But it's beautiful, it's true
And baby, that's show business for you!"

And finally... the last double-stuffed post of the series.

Pre-ranking The Life Of A Showgirl based on titles alone

This is an idea I got from seeing many Swiftubers do it, where I'll be predicting how I'll rank the album based on the vibes I'm getting from each title. Obviously don't take this too seriously, we haven't heard any of the songs yet so this will likely be far off from my actual ranking.

#12: Father Figure - confirmed to be an interpolation of George Michael, and I don't have a problem with that but I'm more excited for the new original material

#11: The Fate Of Ophelia - lead singles are usually not my least favorites but are often lower down

#10: Opalite - the next few songs are all just songs I didn't know where to place because of more vague titles

#9: Ruin The Friendship - see above

#8: Actually Romantic - see above

#7: Wi$h Li$t - this could genuinely be my favorite or my least favorite and it's hard to tell

#6: Elizabeth Taylor - probably a gorgeous narrative

#5: CANCELLED! - excited for the angst

#4: Wood - love the many interpretations

#3: Honey - more mature Beautiful Eyes?

#2: The Life Of A Showgirl (featuring Sabrina Carpenter) - probably super fun

#1: Eldest Daughter - track 5 is a favorite a lot of the time

Also, I know I didn't clarify this that much but this series was partially in celebration of 22,000 views so thank you so much for reading my blog!

[2 to 12] Honey + my ranking of all 22 "and baby, that's show business for you" playlist songs

[note: this is simply a prediction post, and does NOT contain any leaked content]

Two days. Only 26 hours (aka 13+13 hours) until The Life Of A Showgirl. I can't believe we're already about to get a whole new album from Taylor Swift, and today it's time to talk about Honey.

Taylor Easter egged this song in an Instagram post in support of Travis Kelce's role in Happy Gilmore using a honey emoji, so I think we all know who this song is about...

I'm kinda thinking this'll just be a pure love song, like Lover or a more mature Beautiful Eyes. Of course many of these song titles have not been used in other Taylor songs (Wood appears in New Year's Day and the unreleased Cross My Heart, and the word Cancelled is used in what is likely a very different context in August), but Honey has been mentioned in all of the following songs in Taylor's discography:

  • An unreleased song titled "Honey Baby"
  • Santa Baby
  • Cold As You
  • You're Not Sorry
  • Jump Then Fall
  • Never Grow Up
  • Better Than Revenge
  • Girl At Home
  • New Romantics
  • Delicate
  • Look What You Made Me Do
  • Gorgeous
  • Getaway Car
  • This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things
  • Lover
  • Paper Rings
  • False God
  • Exile
  • Happiness
  • Dorothea
  • Karma
  • Imgonnagetyouback

Yeah, I don't think there's any direct connection here. Honey is a very common term of endearment. Besides, Taylor didn't meet Travis until the TTPD era so the only song that would make sense with the Travis timeline would be IGGYB, a song widely thought to be about Matty Healy. I do think it's interesting that Taylor used the term significantly more in Reputation than any other album, and Rep does seem to be the parallel album. Honey could take on numerous poetic/symbolic meanings. It's sweet, things can stick to it, it never expires, and interestingly it's made by bees... shiny bug anyone?

I don't really know what else to say. It's a very unspecific title that's probably just going to be a sweet, cute, romantic song.

Alright, second-to-last installment of HFE94's conceptual songwriting of the series! (And second-to-last installment of me being a broken record saying no AI assistance or leaks were used!)

"I am the shiny bug
They won't want on their rug
I buzz inside their ear
You hear it loud and clear
And you know I will give you it all
The high flight and the hard fall
But our sweetness lasts forever
Honey, can we stick together?"

Okay, today is another double-stuffed post!

My ranking of all 22 "and baby, that's show business for you" playlist songs

This is my personal opinion on the official Spotify playlist for the pre-release and promotion of this album, ranked from my least favorite to my favorite. These results were compiled via a preference revealer and came as no surprise to me.

#22: All You Had To Do Was Stay

#21: So It Goes...

#20: King Of My Heart

#19: How You Get The Girl

#18: End Game

#17: Style

#16: New Romantics

#15: I Did Something Bad

#14: Blank Space

#13: Delicate

#12: Wonderland

#11: Message In A Bottle

#10: Shake It Off

#9: Bad Blood

#8: I Knew You Were Trouble

#7: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

#6: Dancing With Our Hands Tied

#5: Don't Blame Me

#4: Wildest Dreams

#3: ...Ready For It?

#2: 22

#1: Gorgeous

I'm not surprised All You Had To Do Was Stay ranked as my least favorite and Gorgeous ranked as my favorite, these were exactly my first thoughts. Regarding the three eras represented in the playlist, I'm not surprised that Red generally ranked higher, 1989 generally ranked lower with Wildest Dreams as a noticeable outlier, and Reputation was the most widespread.

That's all for now! Byeeeeeeeeee!

This is the most recent post!

So... about the current state of this blog?

Okay. It's time for another one of these. These aren't fun, but right now it's necessary that I say something about what has hap...

You should not be viewing these posts so much. It's too much.
