Welcome to my 99th post of the year, my first ATH of September, and the less-than-a-month-until-Showgirl edition of AllTheHits and... I guess the one benefit of being a day late this time is I can share some of my thoughts about the VMAs.
(If you didn't watch the VMAs live and are waiting to see it on-demand, don't read the following paragraph.)
All of the performances were pretty... out-there, but none of them were bad. Conan Gray and Sombr were two of my favorites, but really my top favorite performance was the Ozzy Osbourne tribute from Yungblud and Aerosmith. As for the awards, I'm pleasantly surprised at the recognition for Ariana Grande, as she was my top choice in numerous categories and I didn't expect her to win. And honestly, this might shock the viewers knowing how much of a Swiftie I am, but I'm not that disappointed Lady Gaga took away Artist Of The Year instead of Taylor Swift. Taylor has had a huge year announcing an album, buying her masters, getting engaged, and finding a way onto every news article, but... the award is Artist Of The Year, and Taylor hasn't released new music yet this year. So I think if she won she would've just been even more ridiculed by the haters. I think Lady Gaga was more deserving of it this year, but maybe next year after Showgirl comes out Taylor will have a better shot.
As for AllTheHits, we have a new #1 from the same artist who's been dominating my chart for months, and a pretty modest week otherwise with two debuts and one re-entry, and a moderate Almost There. Let's get into it!
